Data Protection Advisor, Jon Baines' letter on the role of consent in EU GDPR featured in the Financial Times.
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation says consent will not normally be valid if there is an imbalance of power particularly in an employment context, but that member states may legislate for circumstances where it can be.
Jon states that the UK choosing not to "is surely a strong indication that parliament thought there was no good reason to process data in this way".
