Emma Woollcott on The Economist's 'The world ahead' podcast

Partner and Head of Reputation Protection Group Emma Woollcott recently travelled to 2029 with The Economist's 'The world ahead' podcast series.

In a fictional trial set 10 years in the future, Emma was defending a young woman who had won significant privacy damages in the High Court. The client – Miss X - successfully sued her parents after they shared images of her childhood online and refused to take them down when she grew up.

The client, a young woman starting her career as a human rights barrister, asked her parents to expunge their social media feeds of her photos, so she could start her adult life and her professional career on her own terms.

Emma said, "This fictional case shines a light on very real issues. There are generational shifts as regards the protection of privacy, and an increasing appreciation of the unintended legacy of parents sharing every moment of their children's childhoods online."
