Divorce isn't easy. It is important to remember that the process itself is painful enough without years of expensive litigation.
Many clients have big and challenging personalities which require a skill set beyond lawyering. I've dealt with people from all walks of life: of both sexes, from artists to celebrities, entrepreneurs to oligarchs, the international business community, royalty, rock stars – you name it, I have seen it! In my 30-year career I've undertaken some significant family cases, from a two-week Old Bailey kidnapping trial to a private contact hearing in Paris.
The UK has become the most favourable place in the world for women to litigate. The family law landscape changed in 2000 when the Supreme Court introduced the concept of fairness following the White versus White case. The non-wealth creator – in this case, the wife – was no longer confined to just reasonable needs. As a result, awards for the homemaker increased dramatically.
