Mishcon de Reya client Carrie Gracie has announced that her equal pay dispute with the BBC has been settled. The BBC has apologised for underpaying Carrie, who has said she will be donating the back pay she will receive to women's rights charity, the Fawcett Society.
Mishcon de Reya Employment Partner Jennifer Millins, who represented Carrie, said:
"Carrie Gracie has taken a brave and principled stand against unlawful pay inequality at the BBC and we are very pleased that her case has been given proper consideration and is now resolved.
"We continue to act for many women in similar situations not just at the BBC but across the UK.
"Equal pay legislation has existed in this country for nearly half a century and yet cases like Carrie's show that we are still not achieving gender equality in the workplace. Plainly employers must address any inequality in pay between men and women doing the same or similar work immediately.
"A more complex problem for employers is how to address the gender pay gap highlighted this year. The correlation between a diverse workforce and increased profitability has been proven, and closing the gender pay gap should be seen as a business imperative."
