Every year as part of the Firm’s Social Impact Strategy, we donate to UK registered charities, with many of these charities chosen by our staff.

Mishcon UK Charity of the Year

Place2Be is the leading provider of school-based emotional and mental health services, working in primary and secondary schools across the UK, supporting 105,000 children in 257 schools. They help tackle emotional and mental health problems early to prevent them from developing into bigger problems later on in life. Our support will fund Place2Be’s work in Shoreditch, offering a 'whole school' service which includes one-to-one counselling sessions for children, a lunchtime drop in service 'Place2Talk', group and class work, counselling for parents and support and training for teachers.  Place2Be is a safe space within a school where children and young people can work with a trained counsellor on whatever might be worrying them.

In 2016 we produced a book with Place2Be, written for adults by children on the topic of parental separation. Splitting Up – A Child's Guide to a Grown Up Problem is now available to buy on Amazon.

Mishcon International Charities

Through the Lewa Education Programme, part of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya, we support a primary and secondary school, funding teacher salaries and bursaries. In addition, we support a tertiary education bursary which is awarded to the highest achieving student and will support their studies through university.

In 2016 Mishcon de Reya employees raised £42,000 to build a new girls' dormitory for the Ngare Ndare secondary school.  "Thanks to Mishcon’s fundraising for this new girls’ dormitory, an even safer and stronger foundation is being built to ensure children stay healthy and protected. Giving them the opportunity to attend school, pursue their dreams, and help to pull their families and communities out of poverty."  — Mike Watson, CEO, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Staff continue to fundraise for Lewa's Education Programme, funding teacher accommodation at Ngare Ndare secondary school and a basic dormitory for girls at Sang'a primary school.

We became a member of Kiva in 2010 with a loan fund of £12,000 to enable us to make loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Since joining Kiva, our original £12,000 investment has enabled us to make over 6,000 loans totalling $200,000 to entrepreneurs in 71 developing countries.

Discretionary Fund

Every other month, charities are nominated by members of staff and chosen by a staff committee. Last year we funded 53 UK registered charities. We also support our clients' fundraising efforts.

Match Funding

We encourage our people's own fundraising efforts by matching sponsorship for fundraising events. In 2016 we sponsored 30 members of staff a total of £14,500.

Trainee Fundraising

Our First Year Trainees have committed to raise £8,500 to fund the service of the London Air Ambulance for one day. A UK charity, the Air Ambulance delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London, serving the 10 million people who live, work and travel within the M25.

Social Impact

Social responsibility is at the heart of Mishcon's core values.
