Employment
Employment law is ubiquitous. As an area of law that is intrinsic to all organisations and affects every working member of the public, it is highly political. There has been an increase in the level of European legislation affecting the UK, ensuring that employment law is high on the political agenda both domestically and internationally. As such it is subject to more alternations and additions than any other area of law.
Termination of employment, whether voluntary or otherwise, can be a traumatic experience; a time when former certainties and structures cease to exist.
Reputation is key in one’s working life. A badly managed exit or entry may have very negative implications. Outcomes need to be managed both fairly, and where there is media interest, both strategically and discreetly.
In the current economic climate, the need to actively manage one’s career is critical. Sound advice before entering into a new role, for both individuals and teams, provides greater security in the longer term.
How we are different
As one of few firms acting at the highest level for both employers and employees, we have a unique understanding of tactics deployed by both sides and a balanced understanding of the issues involved.
We maintain a commercial and realistic approach to what you can achieve and will always offer clear timescales as well as outlining the emotional, financial and time investment that will be involved. We retain a sense of realism and exercise pragmatism where appropriate, and are adept at applying proportionate force at the appropriate time.
We act for employees when they want to move, whether an individual or a team move, making sure they exit and enter on the most preferential terms possible.
Much of our work with employees occurs at the end of an employment relationship or when there are problems at work. We appreciate how traumatic a divorce from your working relationship can be.
We understand the regulatory environment and have expertise in it, often combining our Employment Group and Finance and Banking team to achieve the optimum result.
We recognise that reputation management is important to our clients and to this end we will always take a carefully considered view. We work towards a result that enables our client to move on, with our approach reflecting longer term needs and goals.
