Alexander advises private, corporate and not-for-profit clients on contentious matters. He has a diverse practice, focused on resolving complex family, private and commercial disputes, usually with an international aspect; and reputation management.
Alexander has particular experience working with high net worth families. He also has significant experience assisting investors and the not-for-profit sector engaged in sub-Saharan Africa, in relation to operational and reputation issues, including in environmental matters and natural resources.
Alexander has a keen interest in issues relating to sustainability, development and climate change. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and member of Advocates for International Development. He is also a member of The Finance Lab, a joint initiative of IACEW and WWF, examining opportunities for innovation towards sustainability in the financial sector. He is also a trustee of a UK charity engaged in conservation and sustainable, community-based development in Kenya.
Alexander takes a practical approach to problem solving and is familiar with the procedure of a number of arbitral bodies as well as that of the High Court.
Key experience
- Acting for a senior member of a family, in a complex and high value family and trust dispute being litigated in three separate jurisdictions namely in the English High Court, the Amsterdam Commercial Court and in the High Court of Bermuda.
- Advising on the restructuring of a family estate and the establishment of a Private Office.
- Representing private individuals accused of breach of privacy, defamation and blackmail.
- Representing a large multi-national, bringing a series of claims addressing attacks on its environmental and social record.
- Advising a club accused of breaking United Arab Emirates law by an international NGO in relation to child labour.
- Providing strategic litigation advice to an NGO in relation to a multi-jurisdictional dispute.
- Representing a US company against an African state in bringing Conciliation proceedings under the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)
- Defending a claim arising from a west-African energy supply contract before the London Court of International Arbitration.
