Mishcon de Reya advises DC Shoes on store lease at innovative retail community BOXPARK
Mishcon de Reya has advised DC Shoes on the lease of a new store at BOXPARK, the world’s first “pop up” shopping mall which opens this week in East London.
The brainchild of Boxfresh creator Roger Wade in partnership with developers Hammerson and Ballymore, BOXPARK will be home to 60 fashion and lifestyle brands, galleries and cafés. The unique concept, in which shipping containers are stripped and refitted to create low cost “box shops”, opens in Shoreditch on 3 December.
DC Shoes, a sister company to Quiksilver, has taken a five-year lease of one of the box shops, with the option of an early break if Hammerson and Ballymore get planning consent to redevelop the site. The extreme sports footwear and clothing retailer’s store will sit alongside other international brands such as Nike, Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Puma and Vans.
The Mishcon team advising DC Shoes included real estate partner Ian Paul, a member of the Firm’s Retail and Fashion Group, and solicitor Nick Kirby.
Nick Kirby said: “DC Shoes' image fits well with such an innovative and distinct retail concept. It's a great brand to work with and we're delighted to have advised them on this lease.”
