Mishcon de Reya acts for Matterhorn Capital and Brett Palos in the acquisition of hospital portfolio

The Real Estate team at Mishcon de Reya has completed the acquisition of a portfolio of hospitals in Farnham, Blackpool and Hull for longstanding clients Matterhorn Capital in a joint venture with Brett Palos for £54.5million from Quercus Healthcare Property Partnership, a joint venture between Quintain and Aviva Investors. The three hospitals are operated by and leased to Spire Healthcare. The Matterhorn Palos Partnership (MP Property Partnership) has also regeared the leases.

This acquisition is the latest in a string made by MP Property Partnership, the joint venture set up by Matterhorn Capital’s Anthony Lyons and Simon Conway with entrepreneur Brett Palos to acquire prime retail and leisure assets in the UK and Europe.

Mishcon de Reya advised on all real estate aspects of the transaction. The Mishcon de Reya team was led by partners Daniel Lipman and Head of Real Estate, Nick Doffman together with partner John England assisted by Simon Hart.

Daniel Lipman commented:

We have acted for Anthony Lyons and Simon Conway for many years and are delighted to have worked on their latest high profile acquisition with Brett Palos. We are very excited about the trio's future acquisition programme which underscores Mishcon's position as one of the most active real estate teams operating in the mid market."

MP Property Partnership was formed last year. Mishcon de Reya’s property team acted on their debut purchase which was Capital & Regional and Hermes’ X-Leisure Fund’s £92.5million O2 leisure scheme on Finchley Road in north London last March. Since then Mishcon de Reya have acted for the Partnership on various other acquisitions including Earl Gray House and Barclays House two prime listed buildings in the heart of Newcastle City Centre for £20million.
