06 December 2006 |
Mishcon de Reya today announced that it is to establish a scholarship at University College London in memory of its founder, Lord Mishcon, who died in January of this year.
The Mishcon de Reya scholarship will be the top academic award offered by UCL's Masters in Law programme and will be awarded on an annual basis to the student with the most outstanding academic achievement.
Lord Mishcon, one of the UK's most respected lawyers, was granted his practising certificate in 1937 at the tender age of 21 when he founded Victor Mishcon & Co, only standing down as Senior Partner of the renamed Mishcon de Reya, in 1992. In recognition of his distinguished career as a solicitor and his considerable contribution to many areas of public life, Lord Mishcon was made Honorary Queens Counsel in 1992 on the recommendation of The Lord Chancellor - the first practising solicitor to be so appointed. He was made Honorary Member of the Law Society for life in 1994, also on recommendation of The Lord Chancellor.
