Market

A global survey of 61,000 employers by Manpower has found that employers in Britain are still postponing plans to recruit new employees until they see a sustainable demand re-emerging.

Research by ReThink Recruitment has found nearly half of IT directors are planning to hire more staff in 2010, compared with just 17% who are planning to cut jobs but most companies are planning to freeze salaries.

Legal Developments

Legislation 

The Social Security (Medical Evidence) and Statutory Sick Pay (Medical Evidence) (Amendment) Regulations 2010, which introduces changes to GP medical certificates, comes into force on 6 April 2010.
 
The Agency Workers Regulations 2010, which will bring the provisions of the Agency Workers Directive into force on 1 October 2011, have passed into law.

Cases 

Healthcare Locums and First Call Medical have agreed an out-of-court settlement ending court proceedings between them.
