Policy
Accountants and tax experts have warned that recruitment and umbrella companies could face a trio of problems over the coming months with the prospect of a tougher HM Revenue & Customs regime, an increase in VAT and the possibility of growing numbers of insolvencies.

The British Standards Institution and a recruitment industry committee has reached the drafting stage of its online recruitment standard, BS 8877, with a public consultation on the standard likely to launch in the autumn.

According to the recruitment company Ambition more than 16,000 public sector accountants and finance staff are likely to have to look for jobs in the next 5 years, due to government cost-cutting, but they could face problems as private sector companies may not be as keen on candidates from the public sector.
