Welcome to the March edition of Mishcon's Culture vs Corruption Diary, the object of this diary is to provide businesses and their advisors with a snapshot of what is happening in the world of corruption in the last month.
We make no judgement whatsoever as to the morality, legality or appropriateness of the conduct which forms the subject matter of this diary. We simply aim to bring these matters to the attention of those whose responsibility it is to set ethical standards and produce business practice guidelines for the companies they work for, to allow them to make an informed decision on the best practice for their organisation.

An investigation by Scotland Yard has found that Lee Jasper has no criminal case to answer. Mr Jasper had been accused of corruption in connection with the award of grants to organisations with which he has personal links.

Chris Davies, a British Member of the European Parliament (MEP), has exposed details of a report on the misuse of MEP expenses. The report was commissioned by the budget control committee and was intended to be confidential.

Thaksin Shinawatra, the deposed Prime Minister of Thailand, has returned to Bangkok to fight allegations of corruption in connection with a land deal made while he was still in office. Mr Shinawatra denies any wrongdoing.

An Indonesian court has awarded damages of £280,000 to Tommy Suharto, the son of the former dictator, after finding that the state logistics agency defamed him by accusing him of corruption in a civil lawsuit.

The Philippines Office of the Ombudsman has been asked to investigate President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in connection with alleged corruption relating to a $330m government deal with ZTE Corporation, a Chinese telecommunications supplier.
