Changes to the Overseas Domestic Worker visa

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has released a Statement of Intent announcing changes to the Overseas Domestic Worker visa category.

Overseas Domestic Workers in private households will only be allowed to accompany Visitors to the UK. They will be allowed to work for the Visitor for a maximum of 6 months and must leave the UK with their employer after this time. The Overseas Domestic Worker may not extend their stay, switch employer or settle in the UK.

Please note that this change will not apply to any Overseas Domestic Worker already in the UK or those who have applied for leave to enter the UK before 6 April 2012.

The measures outlined in the statement are not a definitive account and this email only summarises the change in relation to Overseas Domestic Workers. It is anticipated that the changes will be laid before Parliament on 15 March.

If you wish to make an application for leave to enter for a domestic worker that meets the current requirements, then it must be submitted before 6 April 2012.
