Tax consultation dates published - residence, domicile and IHT

Following the recent Budget announcements, the government has confirmed that on 14 June 2011 it will begin consulting on the law in two major areas affecting foreign individuals.

  1. A formal consultation on whether there should be a statutory test for determining when an individual is resident in the UK for tax purposes; and
  2. A consultation on possible reform of the taxation of non-domiciled individuals.

The government will also begin consulting on the detail of the proposed reduced rate of inheritance tax for individuals who leave at least 10% of their taxable estate to charity under their will.

This consultation will begin on 31 May 2011.
