A view from the Shard
I was lucky to have been included in a tour of the Shard by its creator Irvine Sellar. You can’t have missed seeing the Shard, as it rises majestically on the skyline from wherever you are in London - and beyond.
But nothing prepares you for the light filled experience of the building itself. Admittedly I was there on a perfect, clear autumn day with light permeating every corner. With 11,000 glass panels, the annual window cleaning bill as Sellar, forever pragmatic, points out is substantial. Although practical completion is still a way off, I’m pleased to report the lifts are functioning and we didn’t have to go up in the builders lift. I’ve been caught out that way before – notably at Canary Tower on a windy winter’s day which was a hair raising experience never to be repeated!
