Toby is the Director of International Strategy and Co-Head of the Firm’s India Desk, alongside immigration expert Kamal Rahman
and a corporate lawyer with expertise in corporate finance both within the United Kingdom and internationally.
Prior to joining Mishcon de Reya, Toby was a consultant with Olswang, where he spearheaded their India practice. Prior to joining Olswang he was Senior Partner at DJ Freeman where he advised on domestic and international corporate finance work. Toby has been closely involved with the US, since working in New York and being admitted to the New York bar in the late 1970s.
Key Experience and Clients
- Toby’s client and contact base is both domestic and international, but he has particularly focused on India over the last two or three years, as India has really begun to emerge economically, and he acts for a range of companies involved in trade, investment and business between the UK and India.
- Toby's Indian expertise is highlighted by his instrumental involvement in bringing Great Eastern Energy Corporation to the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange (‘AIM’) in 2005, which was the first Indian company to come to AIM.
- Toby advised Trinity Capital PLC on its AIM flotation in 2006. Trinity (which raised £250 million), was the first real estate fund focusing on India to come to AIM. Toby was the Founder and also sits on Trinity's board of advisors.
Professional Memberships
Toby is also a Director of the
UK India Business Council (an evolution of the Indo British Partnership Network), which is backed by both governments and chaired by leading industry figures and was set up in 2005 to increase bilateral trade and investment between the UK and India.
