John Jackson has been Chairman of Mishcon de Reya since 1992. He is also chairman of the four Oxford Technology Venture Capital Trusts and Instore plc as well as chairman and part owner of the magazine History Today since 1981. John also writes for openDemocracy (of which he has been a director since its inception) and its blog OurKingdom on constitutional matters.
Since 1980 John has served on, or chaired, the boards of a number of companies in a wide range of industries including Hilton International, BHP Billiton, Celltech and WPP. He was also chairman of
Active Citizens Transform until its merger with Charter 88; he then became one of Charter’s two deputy chairmen until it joined the New Politics Network to form Unlock Democracy, of which he is a council member.

John chaired the committee that produced the “Changing Work” report published by the Fabian Society in 1996. He is also an author, having written a book on rural self-sufficiency entitled “A Little Piece of England”.
